COMMISSION FOR WOMEN LAW

PART I
Establishment, Incorporation and Objectives of Commission
(1) There is hereby established for an advancement of women in the State, a commission to be known as the Commission for Women.
The Commission shall be a body corporate with perpetual succession and a common seal and with power to sue and be sued in its corporate name and to own, hold and dispose of property whether movable or immovable.
(a) to promote the welfare of women in general;
(b) to promote the full utilisation of women in the development of human resources and to bring about their acceptance as full participants in every phase of national development, with equal rights and corresponding obligations;
(c) to promote responsible motherhood and maternal health for women;
(d) to stimulate action to improve women’s civic, political, cultural, social and economic education and organisation;
(e) to support the work of non-governmental organisations for women and to play a co-ordinating role between Government and such women organisations;
(f) to encourage the formation of co-operative societies amongst women both in urban and rural areas and to stimulate in women creative entrepreneurship in the field of cottage industries and small scale industries;
(g) to formulate and propagate moral values within family units generally and to establish programmes with institutions and organisations to inculcate moral education in women and children; and
(h) to work towards total elimination of all social and cultural practices tending to discriminate against and dehumanise womanhood.
