TRADITIONAL RULERS (PRESCRIBED STIPENDS AND
ALLOWANCES) LAW
A law to make provisions for the payment of Stipends and Allowances to Traditional Rulers in Cross River State and for matters connected thereto.
- Payment of Stipends and Allowances
Every person recognised as Traditional Ruler in accordance with the provisions of the Traditional Rulers Law shall be paid such Stipends and Allowances as prescribed and set out in the Schedules to this Law.
- Payment by State and Local Governments
(1) The Stipends and Allowances specified in section 1 of this Law shall be payable, in the case of Traditional Rulers in Category A, by the State Government.
(2) In the case of Traditional Rulers in Category B such stipends shall be payable by their respective Local Governments.
- Exemption from income tax
The allowances excluding stipends specified in section 1 of this Law shall be exempted from income tax.
- Interpretation
In this Law unless the context otherwise requires—
“Local Government” means a Local Government established by or in accordance with the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria;
“State” means Cross River State.
- Short title
This Law may be cited as the Traditional Rulers (Prescribed Stipends and Allowances) Law.

Stipends ₦30,000.00 PER MONTH
ALLOWANCES
- Domestic Staff 2 on Grade Level 01
- Entertainment ₦10,000.00 per month
- Vehicle Maintenance ₦20,000.00 per month
- Palace Allowance ₦60,000.00 per month
- Imprest ₦10,000.00 per month
SCHEDULE 2
CATEGORY B
Clan Heads
Stipends ₦15,000.00 per month
Village Heads
Stipends ₦5,000.00 per month
