EXPLANATORY MEMORANDUM

This Act amends the Water Resources Act Cap. WS, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria. 2004 to review upward the stipulated fines and penalties for offences under the Act.

WATER RESOURCES (AMENDMENT) ACT, 2016

An Act to amend the Water Resources Act Cap. WS, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria. 2004 to review upward the stipulated fines and penalties for offences under the Act; and for related matters.

Commencement.

ENACTED by the National Assembly of the Federal Republic of Nigeria—

Amendment of Cap. W2. LFN, 2004

1. The Water Resources Act Cap. W2, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria. 2004 (in this Act referred to as “the Principal Act” is amended as set out in this Act.

Amendment of section 18 (1)

2. Section 18 (1) of the Principal Act is amended by amended by substituting for—

(a)     the expression—

(i)      “N2,000” in line 3, the expression, “N500,000” and

(ii)     “N100”, in line 5. The expression. “N2,000”; and

(b)     the words. “six months”, the words, “one year”

Citation.

3. This Act may be cited as the Water Resources (Amendment) Act. 2016.
