EXPLANATORY MEMORANDUM

This Act amends the Treaty to Establish African Economic Community Relating to the Pan-African Parliament (Accession and Jurisdiction) Act, 2004 (2005) by giving it additional powers to propose, submit or recommend Draft Model Laws to the Assembly.

An Act to amend the Treaty to Establish African Economic Community Relating to the Pan-African Parliament (Accession and Jurisdiction) Act, 2004 (2005) by giving it additional powers to propose, submit or recommend Draft Model Laws to the Assembly; and for related matters

ENACTED by the National Assembly of the Federal Republic of Nigeria-

Amendment of Act, 2004 (2005)

1. The Treaty to Establish African Economic community Relating to Pan-African Parliament (Accession and Jurisdiction) Act, 2004 (2005) (in this Act referred to as ‘the Principal Act’) is amended as set out in this Act.

Amendment of Article II

2. Article II of the Principal Act is amended by inserting, after paragraph 8, a new paragraph “8A”

“8A.   On its own, make proposals on the subjects or areas on which it may submit and recommend Draft Model Laws to the Assembly for its consideration and approval.”

Citation

3. This Act may be cited as the Treaty to Establish African Economic Community Relating to the Pan-African Parliament (Accession and Jurisdiction) (Amendment) Act, 2016.
