PREVENTION OF CRIMES (AMENDMENT) ACT, 2016

 

EXPLANATORY MEMORANDUM

This Act amends the Prevention of Crimes Act, Cap, P27, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2004 by increasing the prescribed penalties.

PREVENTION OF CRIMES (AMENDMENT) ACT, 2016

An Act to amend the Prevention of Crimes Act, P27, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004 by increasing the prescribed penalties and for related matters.

ENACTED by the National Assembly of the Federal Republic of Nigeria –

 

Amendment of Cap. P27 LFN, Section 3 (1)

  1. The Prevention of Crime Act, Cap. P27 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004 (in this Act referred to as “the Principal Act”) is amended as set out in this Act.

 

Amendment of Section 3 (1)

  1. Section 3 (1) of the Principal Act is amended –

(a)     in subsection (1), by substituting for the word “five” in line 5 the word, “three”

(b)     in subsection (2). by substituting for the words, “who is at large” in line 1, the word, “officer” and

(c)     in subsection (4), by substituting for the word “against” in line 2, the word, “under”.

 

Amendment of Section 4

  1. Section 4 of the Principal Act is amended by substituting for the word, “President” in line 1, and the marginal note, the words, “Commissioner of Police”.

 

Amendment of section 6

  1. Section 6 of the Principal Act is amended by substituting for the word, “President”, in line 1 the words, “Inspector-General of Police”.

 

Citation

  1. This Act may be cited as the Prevention of Crimes (Amendment, Act, 2016).
