NATIONAL MINIMUM WAGE (AMENDMENT) ACT 2000

EXPLANATORY MEMORANDUM

This Act further amends the National Minimum Wage Act, Cap. N61 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004 as amended, to provide for a revised national minimum wage and also to provide for a realistic penalty regime for violation of the provisions of the Act.

NATIONAL MINIMUM WAGE (AMENDMENT) ACT

An Act to amend the National Minimum Wage Act to provide for a revised National Minimum Wage and for purposes connected therewith.

 

[COMMENCEMENT               1st day of May 2000]

 

Be it enacted by the National Assembly of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as follows –

Amendment of Cap.N61 LFN,2004.

  1. The National Minimum Wage Act (in this Act referred to as “the Principal Act”) as amended, is hereby further amended as set out in this Act.

 

Amendment of section 1.

  1. Section 1 of the Principal Act is amended in Sub-section (1) by substituting therefor the following new Sub-section, that is –

“(1)   as from the commencement of this Act, it shall be the duty of every employer (except as provided for under this Act) to pay a wage not less than National Minimum Wage of N5,500.00 per month to every worker under his establishment.”

 

Citation.

  1. This Act may be cited as the National Minimum Wage (Amendment) Act 2000.
