NASARAWA STATE (CREATION OF ADDITIONAL CHIEFDOMS) LAW, 2003

A LAW FOR THE CREATION OF ADDITIONAL CHIEFDOMS IN NASARAWA STATE

 

Enactment

BE IT ENACTED by the Nasarawa State House of Assembly and by the authority of same as follows:

 

Citation

  1. This Law may be cited as the Nasarawa State (Creation of Additional Chiefdoms) Law 2003.

 

Commencement

  1. This Law shall come into force on the 13th day of March, 2003.

 

Establishment

3.(1) (a) There is hereby created 27 (twenty-seven) additional chiefdoms in Nasarawa State.

(b)     The Names of the Chiefdoms are set out in the First Column of the First Schedule to this Law.

(c)     The Traditional titles of the Chiefdoms are set out in the Second Column of the First Schedule to this Law.

(d)     The Status of each Chiefdom is set out in the First Schedule to this Law.

(e)     The Traditional Headquarters of the Chiefdoms are set out in the Fourth Column of the First Schedule to this Law.

(f)      The Names of the Chiefdoms are set out in the First Column of the Second Schedule to this Law.

(g)     The Ruling Houses of each Chiefdom is set out in the Second Column of the Second Schedule to this Law.

(h)     The President of the Local Government Traditional Council shall be the Paramount Ruler of the Chiefdom at the Local Government Headquarters where all the Traditional Rulers in such Local Government are of equal status.

(i)      The method of selection and eligibility to the vacant stools are set out in the Second and Third Columns to the Second Schedule to this Law.

  1. Notwithstanding the provisions of Section (1) of this Law, the validity of existing Chiefdoms, other than those declared null and void by competent courts of law are guaranteed, under this Law with such modifications in their areas of jurisdiction, composition of college of selectors, eligibility and quorum for selection.
