NUMBER OF JUDGES OF THE SUPERIOR COURTS OF RECORD LAW

A LAW TO PROVIDE FOR THE NUMBER OF JUDGES OF SUPERIOR COURTS OF RECORD IN NASARAWA STATE

 

Enactment

BE IT ENACTED by the Nasarawa State House of Assembly and by the authority of same as follows:

 

Citation and commencement

  1. This Law may be cited as the Number of Judges of the Superior Courts of Record Law and shall come into operation on 3rd day of December, 2001.

 

Composition of the High Court

  1. The High Court of the State shall consist of:

(a)     A Chief Judge; and

(b)     Such other number of Judges as the Governor may, from time to time determine but not exceeding twenty (20) at any given time.

 

Composition of the Sharia Court of Appeal

  1. The Sharia Court of Appeal of the State shall consist of:

(a)     A Grand Khadi; and

(b)     Such other number of Khadis from time to time determine but not exceeding seven (7) at any given time.

 

Composition of Customary Court of Appeal

  1. The Customary Court of Appeal of the State shall consist of:

(a)     The President; and

(b)     Such other number of Judges as the Governor may, from time to time determine but not exceeding seven (7) at any given time.

 

Interpretation

  1. In this Law:

 “Constitution” means Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999.

“Customary Court of Appeal” means Customary Court of Appeal of Nasarawa State.

“Chief Judge” means the Chief Judge of the High Court of Justice of Nasarawa State.

“Governor” means the Governor of Nasarawa State.

“Grand Khadi” means the Head of the Sharia Court of Appeal of Nasarawa State.

“High Court” means High Court of Justice of Nasarawa State.

“Judge” means a Judge of the High Court of Justice of Nasarawa State or of the Customary Court of Appeal of Nasarawa State.

“Khadi” means a Judge of the Sharia Court of Appeal of Nasarawa State.

“President” means the Head of the Customary Court of Appeal of Nasarawa State.

“Sharia Court of Appeal” means the Sharia Court of Appeal of Nasarawa State.

“Superior Courts of Record” means the High Court of Nasarawa State, the Sharia Court of Appeal of Nasarawa State and Customary Court of Appeal of Nasarawa State.
